LAMBPLAN Breed Improvement Program
The North American Clun
Forest Association puts a premium on strong maternal traits in our breed. While our sheep are not bred for
the show ring, they are bred to produce! There are two ways in which the
breed association 'judges" individual sheep. One is the LAMBPLAN program,
and the other is the Registry of Merit Program (ROM).
LAMBPLAN
is an integrated stock improvement plan designed to help shepherds pick the best
sheep to retain in their flocks. Using LAMBPLAN as a
selection tool over time will result in a more productive and profitable flock.
Even if you are just a hobby farmer, LAMBPLAN is a powerful record keeping tool
and the data you collect helps us improve the Clun Forest breed.
Getting started in LAMBPLAN isn't difficult, but it does take some time to learn what data to collect and how to enter it into our data system. Once you've entered in your first data, however, keeping records up-to-date is a snap. Here are some links to help you get started:
Before you start entering data on your flock, check with the original breeder of your sheep, as they may have already registered your sheep in the LAMBPLAN system. NACFA members with data already in the LAMBPLAN system include: Bets Reedy, Michele Stute, Alan Zuschlag.
